Shop under one roof
Where shopping is concerned, Leeds is the place to be. There are a ridiculous amount of shops in the compact city centre, high street and independent alike. So if you’re into compact shopping, Leeds is the perfect place to go shopping centre crazy.
From the top of the town, shopping centres include:
— The Merrion centre
— St. Johns Centre
— The Light (as well as shops, it also houses a gym, cinema and restaurants)
— Leeds Shopping Plaza
Each with its own individual character, the shopping centres house all your usual high street shops but all under one roof.
The corn exchange is not your every day shopping centre. The Grade 1 listed architectural beauty was built in 1864. It’s most definitely worth a wander over to the centre, which has a wealth of boutiques on the top floor and indulgence heaven on the lower floor. Although a little pricey, the boutiques are a must when shopping for your end of year ball. The entire ground floor is taken over by the Piazza restaurant. Don’t forget to walk round the edge where there are hidden chocolate shops, boulangeries and coffee shops.
The corn exchange is located at the bottom of town, near to Pure Gym, Pizza Express, Zizzi’s, Las iguanas and the bars Chilli Whites and Mezz.
If you’re lucky enough to have a car in Leeds whilst you’re studying, then a visit to the White Rose Centre is well worth it. With it’s free parking, supermarket, coffee shops, restaurants and high street shops all under one roof it’s pretty convenient.
Handy amenities include:
— Recycling bins by the Sainsbury’s for glass, clothes and cardboard
— A pharmacy in Sainsbury’s
— A Johnson’s dry cleaners in Sainsbury’s
— Boot’s chemist
— Hairdressers
— Halifax and Yorkshire Bank
— Vision Express opticians
— Major stores such as Topshop, Zara, Warehouse and Burton
It’s located on Dewsbury Road, LS11 8LU. Head to Elland Road football stadium and you’ll find your way. There is also access by bus from Leeds city centre. Get bus routes/timetable information here.
